Why is Manufacturing Faring Poorly?

It’s fair to wonder how the sector has reached this new low. In fact, there are multiple reasons why the UK’s manufacturing sector is struggling at the moment, not least because of the soaring price of energy, which is having a major impact on factories and other production lines.

Electrical energy, in particular, costs much more than it does for our European counterparts. This, of course, eats into profits and potentially makes manufacturing prohibitively expensive, according to MoneyWeek.

The Future

Additionally, the UK’s manufacturing sector, along with businesses in other industries, is under increasing pressure from the government to become more sustainable. This creates even further costs, of course, and green levies applied by the government serve only to worsen this problem.

Nonetheless, specialist machines such as the Roscamat electric tapping machines, available from fabrication machinery suppliers like www.cotswold-machinery-sales.co.uk/roscamat-tapping-machines/electric-tapping-machines/roscamat-tiger-electric-tapping-machine, continue to remind us of the fact that Great Britain continues to be a world leader in innovation in manufacturing.

Much remains to be seen how November’s budget will affect the future of the manufacturing sector in the UK. In the meantime, business leaders in the UK’s manufacturing sector can also keep their fingers crossed that the government allocates more funding for both innovation and infrastructure, in the hopes of keeping the UK’s long history of manufacturing alive.
