Minecraft Basics For Newbies

Jeremy February 09, 2016 Tips and Ideas Leave a Comment

If you’re just jumping into the Minecraft craze, welcome to your new obsession. Though it may look very basic and boring at first, this game has captured the hearts of many gamers all over the world for good reason – it is absolutely addictive! Before you start playing, though, you’re going to have to understand how to do a few basic things. Without these skills you really won’t be able to do much. Here are some Minecraft basics for newbies.

Wood is Your Most Valuable Asset

When you first start playing Minecraft you are going to find yourself in a number of different situations. You might be in a jungle, a desert, the plains or a few other types of environments. No matter where you find yourself, you want to be sure to find yourself some wood. Wood comes in all different colors and it can help you in a number of ways. You can use wood to make your way up and down mine shafts, make storage units, and it can also be your source of light and basic tools.

Look for Trees

Now that you know what you can do with wood, you need to know where to find it. Wood comes from trees, of course. So once you find a tree, you want to start punching it. You want to keep punching it until a big chunk of wood falls off. Once you have punched off a chunk of wood you can open up your inventory by pressing E and then click on it with the mouse to grab it.

Build a Crafting Table

Now that you’ve got some wood and you know how to hold it with your cursor, you want to use it to create a crafting table. You should have a 2×2 crafting segment in your inventory. Use the wood in hand and place it into the crafting segment. Once you do this, you will notice that you end up with a 3×3 crafting grid. This is what you will use to craft almost everything, whether you’re playing the standard Minecraft or Minecraft For Free X. Once you know how to do this, you can go find some more trees to punch.

Make an Axe

You can continue turning wood blocks into wooden planks by repeating the steps above. Once you have a few wooden planks you want to start stacking them on top of each other. This is how you can create sticks. Once you know how to make a stick you can make just about any tool. The first tool you will want to make is an axe so that you can chop down more trees. You can do this by placing two sticks in your grid, one in the middle and one in the lower middle section of the grid. Then, put 3 planks down in the shape of an upside down L. If you do it right, you should have a wooden axe. Now you can start chopping down trees and making more tools.
