Tips for Internet Marketing for home businesses

4 min read

Operating a business from home has its share of benefits. You get to work from the family, a comfortable environment and make your own schedule. The earning potential is directly related to the work you put into it. However, the acquisition of new customers, especially when you start out, can be long and difficult. Business owners who understand how to market your product or service to the right audience can stand out from the competition.

Try affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is a strategy to promote products or services of other companies in your site, or get other companies to promote their product or service on your website in exchange for a commission on each sale. Approach companies that promote this type of product line on their website and form an alliance. For example, if you sell cookbooks online, collaborate with a company that sells health and wellness books on their website. Even if you are giving a percentage of their profits, these other companies will do all the selling for you.

Start blogging

Blogging is another way to promote your online business. Starting a blog is easy and does not cost much. Have your webmaster has created a blog on your website, or do it yourself. Write a daily or weekly blog that is relevant to your home business. For example, if your home business sells nutritional supplements online, write blog posts on topics such as healthy eating, weight loss and exercise. If you provide relevant content, you can grow your readership for your blog and spread the word about your business. Once you get some traffic to your blog, you can also sell advertising space to earn extra money.

Create a newsletter

Newsletters are another way to put your home based business. Capture the email addresses of visitors to your website and create a newsletter using a service like Constant Contact, Aweber mail or chimpanzee. If you lack design skills and writing, hire a graphic design specialist and freelance writer to help develop a professional newsletter each week. The key to a successful newsletter is not trying to “sell” their subscribers as well. This means that you must provide about 90 percent of useful content and 10 percent of sales-related content. For example, if you are running a financial planning business from home, 90 percent of newsletter content should be useful tips on how customers can save money by choosing the right actions and plan for retirement. The other 10 percent should be on how customers can benefit from financial planning services.
